Design Narrative

Cosmic is a fictional augmented reality application designed to offer users a clean stargazing experience. By simply scanning the night sky, the app identifies and highlights various constellations, allowing users to learn more about them. The app also features star forecasts and social media functions, making it the ultimate companion for astronomy enthusiasts. With Cosmic, users can stay up-to-date with the latest celestial events and share their experiences with fellow stargazers. 

The main challenge for Cosmic was the simplicity of the app’s appearance and function. It has a minimal design that features a muted, dark photographic background of the stars, to evoke a sense of wonder and amazement. The focus of the design is to provide users with a whimsical experience of space, complete with a simple and intuitive user interface.

Remaining with a minimal color scheme of dark blues and white along with simplified icons became the key. Rounded elements also give the app a soft appearance. Serif fonts were used for the header and body to compliment the fantasy inspired font of the logo. In the logo, the “C” is replaced with a crescent moon, and the dot of the “i” is a rounded star to both mimic the art style in the app and to literally reflect the night sky. Overall, Cosmic is an AR app designed for stargazing and learning about constellations, featuring star forecasts and a simple, intuitive user interface whilst giving the user a mystical experience.
